Iran Takes Four More Medals at West Asian Karate Contests
Clashing in the Al Ittihad hall of Al Salemiya Sports Complex of Kuwait, Jassem Vishgahi of Iran cruised into the final after beating his opponents from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In an all-Iranian final, Vishgahi presented the glittering gold to his teammate Alireza Katiraei without fighting.
Katiraei had earlier beaten his Saudi Arabian and Kuwaiti rivals.
In -75kg, Vishgahi snatched the gold medal, defeating the contestants from Kuwait and Syria.
Katiraei and Emad Sabsabi of Syria tied at No. 3 and bagged bronze jointly in -70kg, IRNA reported.
Meanwhile, Iranian karatekas swooped five medals including two golds, two silvers and one bronze on the first day of the 2nd West Asian Games underway here Monday.
